What is a cookie, and when do we set one?
A cookie is a small data file that a website stores in the visitor's browser. Without consent, the askbruxy.com website sets no cookies at all and loads no third-party code. Analytics or marketing cookies are used only after the visitor's explicit, category-by-category consent.
Essential storage
We remember your consent choice (which categories you accepted, and when) in the browser's localStorage under the name "askbruxy-consent" for 12 months. This is not a cookie, it is not shared with third parties, and it is needed even without consent so that we don't ask again on every visit.
Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to produce aggregated statistics on visits to and use of the website (e.g. pages viewed, session length, device type, approximate country). The purpose is to improve the website and the service; we do not identify visitors and do not combine the data with other databases.
Cookies set: "_ga" — a random identifier used to distinguish visitors, expiry: 2 years; "_ga_<ID>" — used to persist session state, expiry: 2 years.
Provider: Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Data may also be transferred to the United States; Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
Marketing cookies
We do not currently use any advertising or remarketing service, so no marketing cookies are set. The category is included in the settings so that any future ad measurement (for example Google Ads) can only work with separate consent; we will update this policy before introducing any such service.
Managing and withdrawing consent
Consent is voluntary; refusing it has no disadvantage, and the website remains fully usable. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" button in the website footer. On withdrawal we delete the analytics cookies and further data collection stops.
You can also delete or block cookies at any time in your browser settings. Consent is valid for 12 months, after which we ask again.
In the chat widget
The AskBruxy widget installed on websites does not use cookies. It stores the data needed for operation — the signed session token that expires after 30 minutes and is needed to continue the conversation, and the panel size preference — in the browser's localStorage. This data is technically essential for providing the service, is not accessible to third parties, and is not used for profiling.
The stored data can be removed at any time by clearing the browser's data; in that case the previous conversation is not restored.
